UNESCO Logo or The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO, Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with the mission to contribute to peace building, poverty reduction, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture and communication. UNESCO was founded on 16 November 1945 and its headquarters are in Paris.

UNESCO as a specialized UN agency fulfills five roles for the world community in the framework of the UNESCO mission mentioned in the introduction. UNESCO sees two global priorities: Africa and equality between men and women. There is also focus on youth, the least developed countries, small island developing countries, disadvantaged and excluded groups and the weaker sections of society including indigenous people.

A fairly well-known activity of UNESCO’s World Heritage program. Since 1972, UNESCO encourages the protection of world heritage (World Heritage) by preparing a World Heritage by the UNESCO Commission for the World. This list includes properties with an exceptional and universal nature and / or cultural value. In 1992 UNESCO launched a World Heritage List for documents to protect the global memory (Memory of the World). Attention is also paid for intangible heritage, underwater cultural heritage.
